Course Description

This training course on Power BI will enable participants to import, transform, analyze, and visualize data from diverse sources to draw powerful insights that can be used for storytelling through data and informing data-driven decision-making.

What is Power BI? – Power BI is an interactive data visualization software product developed by Microsoft with a primary focus on business intelligence. Many online learning platforms including Coursera rate Power BI as the best and most sellable data visualization tool.

In addition to its use for business intelligence, Power BI is immensely popular with data scientists who work with data.

Why Power BI? – Power BI is one the best tool for data analytics and ad-hoc data analysis. Power BI compared to other tools has many advantages and is very simple to use. End users do not need to have technical knowledge and skills to create advanced reports and dashboards.

Course Content

Week 1: Basics of Power BI: The First Professional Report

This module will introduce students to Power BI, explain the interface, and enable them to make a professional-looking Power BI report.

  • Installing Power BI
  • Importing data from diverse sources
  • Creating a basic report using bar charts, pie charts, tables, histograms, maps, etc.

Week 2: Data Analysis, Manipulation and Filtering

This module will teach students how to detect outliers, use sources from the open web, and create maps

  • Creating measures and calculated columns
  • Filtering data in a report
  • Using slicers, dynamic filtering of a report
