Course Description
This workshop aims to take an individual from beginner to intermediate level in Excel. The participants will learn how to perform basic calculations, modeling, and analysis in Excel along with creating data visualizations.
Teaching Tools
There will be an assignment (individual and group) after every topic that is covered during the workshop. Feedback on the assignments will be provided during the workshop, and at the end.

Module 1: Data Literacy and Statistical Foundations
- Data relationships, data shapes, and primary/unique keys identifiers
- Big Data

Module 2: Data Cleaning, Preparation, and Management
- Dataset structure, labels, duplicates, splitting, combining, missing values)Â

- Functions: Left, Right, Mid, Len, Trim, Text-to-Column, Find, Concatenate
- IF and Nested IF statements
- Advanced Commands (VLookUp)Â
Module 3: Modeling on Excel, Making Visualizations
- Different Graphs on Excel
- Basic modeling E.g. create a simple budget model
Module 4: Introduction to Pivot Table for Analysis

Trainers
Dr Naveed Iftikhar
Dr. Naveed Iftikhar is a recognised practitioner and innovator in the field of development economics, urban studies, and public-private partnerships. He has co-founded atomcamp and Learner’s Republic. Earlier, he served as a Governance Specialist at the Economic Reforms Unit of Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance. He has taught economics, management, public policy, and urban economics/management courses in various universities, most recently LUMS, and civil service training institutions. He holds an M.Phil. in Economics and a PhD in Urban Affairs and Public Policy from the University of Delaware’s Biden School of Public Policy and Administration.
Zumer Zia
Zumer Zia is currently working as a Data Science Advisor and Trainer at atomcamp where she designs and conducts multiple programs, bootcamps, and trainings on Data Science. She also provides consulting services to the Asian Development Bank and has previously worked in various research and communications roles. She has studied Economics & Politics at LUMS.
