About this Course

Climate change has often been described as a ‘wicked problem’, the ‘ultimate collective action problem’, and the ‘defining issue of our time’. For Pakistan, the problem is happening now. With extreme weather events like floods ravaging the country, heatwaves and drought, the country that contributes less than 1% in global emissions is the 8th most vulnerable to the effects of Climate Change (Source: German Watch).

Climate action requires ambitious policies to shift the world from its current carbon-intensive path to net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the middle of this century.

A 4-week seminar-style course, this course aims to give a theoretical and practical understanding of Climate Change in the context of National Climate Governance. It will introduce participants to key aspects of a low-carbon future and create an understanding of critical aspects of climate change such as mitigation and adaptation.

To be held prior to the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP 27) to be held in Egypt, this course aims to sensitize students to key aspects of climate change policy and politics. It examines climate policy and the national climate environment.

The course will be structured as follows:

Module-1: An introduction to climate change: Climate Science and the Climate Problem

Module-2: Climate Impacts and Climate Justice

Module-3: Climate Policy: Mitigation and Adaptation

Module-4: Climate Future: Way Forward

The course is aimed at students and professionals interested in learning about the interconnected issues stemming from Climate Change. It requires no previous knowledge on climate policy.
