Art Therapy is a distinctive discipline that incorporates creative methods of self-expression and healing through visual arts such as, drawing, painting, sculpting, color psychology, and texture expression. Art Therapy is a hybrid field which is getting more and more recognition with time. It is a creative process comprising of aspects from fine arts and psychology. It plays a vital role in developing self-awareness, addressing unresolved emotional conflicts, and physical & mental healing. It provides every individual a unique opportunity to express a particular experience, life history or a cultural narrative. It’s essentially a bridge connecting the within with the verbal world.
We invite participants to draw, paint and sculpt in a variety of art therapeutic exercises that helps to identify and express thoughts, feelings, conflicts, strengths and increase confidence, self-esteem, and coping skills. This workshop will provide individuals with a voice to express who they are and what they want to be.
Workshop Day 1
Activity 1: Clay Therapy – Abstract Self Portrait
In the first activity, participants will express themselves positively through clay techniques, used in the context of art therapy as clay has been found to lessen anxiety and mood swings. This technique will aid with socialization, creativity awakening, and trauma healing.
The module will begin with relief work using traditional molding and casting techniques, after which the participants will explore their own personality and how they relate to symbols, in order to construct a metaphorical self-portrait, using various objective forms and symbols.
Activity 2: Self-expression through Painting – Colour Psychology
The second activity on Day 1 is about empowering participants with new skills, exploring art and understanding the effects of art therapy. The trainers will teach traditional and contemporary techniques of marbling and how to achieve aesthetic abstraction in painting. Marbling has an immensely impressive impact on individuals with anxiety, depression, and anger management issues. This activity will be completed on Day 2.
Workshop Day 2
Activity 3: Group Mural Activity
On the second day, there will be a fun and interactive mural activity, where the entire group will paint on a community canvas with instructions and rules. Each participant will create an island on the canvas and then the group members will link the islands through imagery
Instructors

Noor Fatima’s career can be described through various words but to sum it all up, “DIVERSE” would be a perfect choice. Over the years, her work has allowed her to explore different aspects of arts and to employ a wide variety of techniques to her work. Noor Fatima has been involved in the promotion of arts and culture as a visual artist, as a curator, art educationist and as an art therapist. She has also worked in the field of art education as well as the mental health through various institutes and organizations.
Currently, Noor Fatima is working at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) as an art curator and curated ‘The New Odyssey’ a national exhibition by BFA Grads across Pakistan, “Collective Ground”, by prominent sculptors across Pakistan, ‘Perpetual Beings’ a show honoring works and life of master artists of Pakistan, An Homage to Rabia Zuberi etc. Alongside she runs her own business, “Lavender Beings”, a wellness organization primarily focused on yoga, meditation, and creative arts therapy

Neeli Ahmed is a visual artist born in the serene town of Danyore, Gilgit. She joined the National College of Arts (NCA) Rawalpindi to refine her artistic skills and played with various mediums of arts. Graduating from NCA with a major in sculpture, Neeli became the first female sculptor of her town. She has represented culture of Gilgit-Baltistan in the form of sculpture in various platforms.
